Pranavi Agrawal- Secretary General

Dear delegates, parents, and future diplomats,

With utmost excitement, I invite you to the fifth session of the Shishukunj Model United Nations Conference to be held at The Shishukunj International School, Indore, from August 2nd to August 4th, 2019. It is my honour and privilege to serve as the Secretary-General of a conference that embodies a culture of education and excellence.

As we strive in a world which is impended by trails of injustice, affected by man’s destruction, and shouldered by a minute number of people who stand for equality, it is vital for us as the youth to craft pragmatic solutions to global problems ranging from data breaches to economic recessions to international clashes. We believe that United Nations remains the most important global actor in upholding world peace and security, and building upon these ideals is a conference where you can reimagine the globe and make an impact. The theme of the conference, ‘Reinterpreting, Redefining and Reconstituting Global Foundations’, perfectly exemplifies this philosophy and asks you to reinterpret your notion of the world's future, redefine the existing rules and laws, and finally, reconstitute the future to make a difference.

Shishukunj MUN 2019 hopes to present delegates with an intellectually stimulating environment to voice their opinions, simulating some of the world’s most powerful leaders, politicians, and representatives of nations. Apart from the heated discussions and nifty negotiations, the conference will provide the participants with three unforgettable days of persuasion, deliberation, and sheer gratification. Above all, Shishukunj MUN will continue to be a launchpad for future thinkers, leaders and change makers, and prepare them to resolve the most exigent global issues.

Building upon the success of our four previous editions, with over 350 delegates and 10 uniquely designed committees at last year’s conference, exploring challenging and demanding issues, Shishukunj MUN 2019 endeavours to bring out the most challenging aspects of a Model United Nations debate with an eclectic set of 9 committees, ranging from the traditional Security Council and General Assembly, to new and innovative committees like the Emergency Meet of Yugoslavian Constituencies and simulation of the historical Organisation of African Unity.

The members of the Shishukunj MUN Secretariat are working diligently to bring to life these riveting committees, plan dynamic delegate events, and to improve the conference from years past to be both competitive and educational. It is my hope that all those who attend will cherish the experiences had and memories made in this conference, long after my gavel marks the end of the closing ceremony.

On behalf of our entire team, once again, welcome to Shishukunj MUN 2019.

Director Generals

Dear Delegates,

With immense pleasure, we, Adviteeya Khujneri and Vedika Chawla, welcome you all to the 5th iteration of the Shishukunj Model United Nations Conference, 2019! The theme for this year’s conference is “Reinterpreting, Redefining, and Reconstituting Global Foundations.”

Before we get into the more solemn things that we’re used to, a little about us: we both are humanities students, and well, not to be too cliché, we’re also bench partners and best friends. Yes, you have the ultimate combination of Director-Generals you could possibly imagine!

As global and more inter-connected citizens of the contemporary world, we have developed a revolutionary approach towards the understanding of our governments, and this world at large. We have questioned pre-definitions and have constantly evolved with broader ideas by reshaping the very fundamentals that our fore-fathers once sought to be appropriate and long-standing. We have now come to recognize a constant need for change - of what’s better and of what’s next. In other words, we’ve changed a great deal since ‘Egalité, Fraternité, Liberté’ happened.

But what was more important to this change discussed above was the now-known fact that we, as human-beings, had to change before each new development. That’s the truth in what Gandhi said.

Having studied everything from Plato’s democracy to concepts like Laissez Faire and John Rawl's Veil of Ignorance, and having extensively discussed them in all kinds of conversations, we hold peculiar, and often contrasting views about close to everything in the world. Even so, our ideas are rooted in individuality and in the Socratic belief of ‘we know that we know nothing’. And to deliver this vision to you, this year, we have curated a wide assortment of committees with very unique, innovative and challenging agendas that compel you to adopt a new and universal understanding of our existing global institutions and what defines them, to furnish them with a broader spectrum, and to even create new bridges of connection between nations and organs in this century’s time of crisis.

At last, remember that it’s not about how big the problem is, but it’s about how significantly you solve that problem. The label of what country you have as a delegate is nothing compared to the mind and ideas that you have.

"Let your mind fight the war for brilliance, for this is a war that can never lead to a loss."

This being said, we couldn’t be more excited to see you in what could be one of the most thrilling conferences you've attended.

Till then, good luck and we hope you have an amazing time!
